NT: Three men, four dogs rescued from roof of car

DARWIN, Jan 6 AAP - Three men and their four dogs have been rescued from the roof of a landcruiser after it was swept into a swollen creek in the Northern Territory outback.
The group was travelling in a convoy along the Dorisvale Road when they tried to cross the Copperfield Creek, about 70km north of Katherine.
One vehicle made it through the crossing about 1.45am (CST) on Sunday.
But a second car, a Toyota landcruiser tray back, was washed into the river along with three men aged 25, 32 and 35, and their four dogs.
The 33-year-old male driver of the first car alerted police, telling them the men had crawled onto the roof of their vehicle.
When officers arrived at the scene they managed to drive out to the stranded party, and rescued them using safety ropes.
All three men were taken to the Stuart Highway side of the crossing.
Police said they intended to camp there while they waited for the water to subside so they could recover their car.
The dogs were rescued later in the day, once the waters had subsided enough to allow access to the vehicle.
